Eligibility and Requirements

  • The team should be proficient in the code or projects they bring to the event and expect to make progress during the event.
  • This activity requires group registration, with each team consisting of at least 3 and a maximum of 6 members, and each member must be at least 13 years old. Lack of active participation from a team member may disqualify the entire team.
  • The team needs to prepare and have a clear understanding of the AI or HPC project, including the dataset and code, and hopes to make efficient progress through this TWCC Open Hackathon.
  • Projects participating in the event must be accompanied by a software license, which must be detailed in the application. For more information on why software licenses are important and how to obtain one, please refer to:

    https://choosealicense.com/
  • This event will utilize TWCC computing resources. Teams are required to upload their datasets, code, and other relevant resources to TWCC for computation and are responsible for all materials prepared by themselves. Please adhere to the TWCC usage guidelines when using TWCC. Any violations will result in the organizer having the right to delete the infringing content or take other necessary actions, and may also suspend this service.
  • Participating teams do not need advanced GPU skills, but a basic understanding of GPUs will be helpful for programming and analysis during the event. We recommend that you attend GPU lectures and hands-on courses before the event to familiarize yourself with these concepts. Please contact the event organizer for more information.
  • Successful registration does not guarantee eligibility to participate in the event. The organizer will notify shortlisted teams by October 20, 2022, after review.

Activity Format and Key Itinerary

This TWCC Open Hackathon will be held online in Taiwan Standard Time (UTC+8) and requires full participation. Microsoft Teams and email will be the primary communication and exchange tools. Each team will be paired with a mentor to discuss and optimize their code, and will share their progress (SCRUM) with all teams during the event. This Open Hackathon will utilize TWCC cloud computing resources, using GPU parallel computing to accelerate or improve your code. The organizers will review your registration information and notify selected teams on October 20, 2022.

What is Open HACKATHON?

Open Hackathon is a multi-day intensive hands-on event designed to help computational scientists and researchers port and optimize applications using GPUs. This event pairs participants with experienced mentors in GPU programming and development. Participating teams and mentors from outstanding machine learning communities demonstrate how to achieve performance gains and accelerations through parallel programming on GPUs.

The goal of Open Hackathon is to enable current or potential users of large GPU-accelerated systems to port their applications to GPU accelerators or further optimize their already ported applications. Participating teams will receive their applications running on GPUs or further insights into next steps for leveraging GPUs after the event.

What does the event include?

The TWCC Open Hackathon is conducted using a Scrum approach, including mentor guidance, application modification, time for team discussions, and experience sharing. Teams should have experience in C, C++, Fortran, Python programming, or AI model development and framework usage. Participants should bring their own computers and audio/video equipment to access TWCC Taiwan AI Cloud Platform resources for hands-on experiments and discussions with their mentors.

Why participate?

If you have AI or HPC projects and want to leverage them to make your work stand out, then you absolutely can't miss the TWCC Open Hackathon. Through this event, you'll learn various GPU-accelerated computing tools and master acceleration techniques through different parallel computing programming models. Under the guidance of instructors, you'll choose appropriate programming models or use the NVIDIA AI application platform, ultimately enabling you to quickly and effectively accelerate your HPC code or optimize your AI models on GPUs.
