Tainan City Government is leveraging AI technology to create innovative urban governance services. Its "Urban Dynamic Image AI Sensing Platform" won the 2023 Smart City Innovation Application Award, which was accepted by Deputy Mayor Chao Ching-hui on March 28th. Under the theme of "Sensing Tainan, Technological City," the city collaborated with companies such as ASUS Cloud, Linker Vision, and Aeon Motors to showcase their AI-powered smart sensing platform at the 2023 Smart City Exhibition. This platform will serve as the foundation for building a smart city data application environment and developing various smart transportation services, including real-time traffic image analysis and applications, green energy public transportation vehicles, and safe vehicle-to-everything (V2X) value-added applications. This demonstrates Tainan City's achievements in smart sensing technology and its new look as a technologically advanced ancient capital.

Mayor Huang Wei-che stated that Tainan has been using digital technology to assist in smart city governance for many years. The city government has collaborated with ASUS Cloud and Taizhi Cloud on the "Urban Dynamic Image AI Perception Platform," which uses 5G and AI recognition technology to quickly identify and analyze data from various image sources, including pedestrian and vehicle flow. Its ability to lower the threshold for AI applications and accelerate development and verification is also the key to this award. It not only provides real-time support for municipal decision-making but also effectively grasps the pulse of the city, laying a solid foundation for the long-term smart city development of Tainan, the ancient city of technology.

Presidential Office Secretary-General Lin Chia-lung visited the exhibition hall and highly praised Tainan's innovative achievements and outstanding performance in actively developing AI-based urban governance. Deputy Mayor Chao Ching-hui, representing Mayor Huang Wei-che, accompanied him on the visit and expressed support and encouragement to industry partners who have collaborated with Tainan's public and private sectors. Hsin Yun Lin Technology Co., Ltd., located in the Youai Market startup hub in Tainan, uses drones or CCTV to obtain traffic images. It then uses AI image recognition processing and edge computing systems, combined with 5G, to provide real-time traffic information to the city government. This allows for rapid monitoring of traffic flow on key road sections. Combined with smart traffic management methods such as traffic signal control, this improves vehicle speed and effectively reduces overall road travel time. Furthermore, in conjunction with the Model T electric bus, Tainan serves as a testing ground. Through 2D/3D perception systems, data correction and fusion, the system visualizes the bus's interior and exterior environment on a screen, assisting drivers and providing passengers with an immersive experience, thus enhancing the safety and service quality of the city's public transportation.

The "Urban Dynamic Image AI Perception Platform" developed this time combines a hybrid cloud architecture with the resources of Taiwan AI Cloud (TWCC). Its biggest advantage is its application flexibility. It can meet the different business needs of the city government and expand the recognition model through machine learning to increase the platform's ability to perceive objects in images. This is an important step in the development of general-purpose AI. At the same time, it can also be combined with remote-controlled drones and 5G for real-time image transmission, helping business units to quickly verify the feasibility of AI application ideas and enter a cycle of rapid iteration and optimization, laying the foundation for the development of EdgeAI.

At the 2023 Smart City Expo & Net Zero City Expo, Tainan's booth was themed "Sensing Tainan, Technological City". Lee Li-kuo, COO of Taishin Cloud, shared the results of value-added utilization of smart transportation services with Tainan Deputy Mayor Chao Ching-hui.
