Tainan City Government and ASUS are jointly hosting the "Talent Co-creation Technology Application Hackathon," which will officially kick off in June.
In 2022, the Tainan City Government, focusing on the themes of "Smart Epidemic Prevention," "Smart Tourism," and "Smart Transportation," partnered with ASUS Cloud and Taiwan Smart Cloud Services (Taiwan Smart Cloud) to host the "2022 Tainan AI Smart City, Talent Co-creation Technology Application Hackathon." This pioneering interactive hackathon competition connected citizens, AI technology companies, and startup teams, encouraging participation from both the city government and the general public. The event was also co-organized by the Digital Life Technology Research and Development Center of National Cheng Kung University, located in Tainan. The aim was to create a better urban life through the event. The prizes were diverse, ranging from a NT$10,000 cash prize and NT$3 million in cloud resources to job matching opportunities. The first phase, open to public submissions of creative ideas, ended on June 30th. Those who submitted their ideas had a chance to win a NT$2,000 gift certificate and a certificate of appreciation from the Tainan City Government. Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che stated that the promotion of innovative smart city applications must start with solving urban problems. In the past, the Tainan City Government has already implemented many AI applications in urban scenarios. This event invites citizens to raise questions and unleash their creativity, creating an opportunity for in-depth exchanges between the public sector, citizens who propose solutions, and technical teams, clarifying the core of the problems and developing valuable AI applications. He hopes that everyone will work together to promote the development of smart cities in Tainan.
With the vision of "New Economy, New Homeland," Tainan City is committed to building a development environment that lays the foundation for Asia's smart and knowledge-based digital economy. In 2021, it collaborated with ASUS to create the "Urban Dynamic Image AI Sensing Platform," which provides strong support for urban governance through AI technology. This year, it further held a hackathon, pioneering an interactive model that connects citizens, AI technology, and startup teams. From the perspectives of the city government team and the public, it explored the three major areas of concern to the city government and citizens: "Smart Epidemic Prevention, Smart Tourism, and Smart Transportation."
Tainan City Government Research, Development and Evaluation Committee Chairman Tai Wei-Chun stated that in recent years, the Tainan City Government has promoted a number of smart city AI applications, including pedestrian flow recognition and analysis, vehicle flow recognition and analysis, road damage detection, dengue fever egg identification, mask wearing detection, and social distancing detection. He also hopes to use this event to interact deeply with citizens and understand their imagination and expectations for smart municipal services.
This hackathon officially kicked off in June and is divided into three phases: "Problem Setting Phase," "Problem Solving Phase - Book Review," and "Problem Solving Phase - Practical Application." Through the event website and workshops, supplemented by AI-related online courses and AIHPC cloud computing resources, the event aims to help participants acquire relevant basic knowledge and high-speed computing resources, enabling citizens, AI participants, and problem-solving teams to have complete information and the best tools to complete the tasks in each phase.
